Three-day chemistry workshop concludes at AIOU

A 3-day workshop entitled “Recent Advances in Chemistry for College Teachers” was held by the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Department of Chemistry concluded here on Sunday. The AIOU had arranged the event in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The concluding ceremony was held here at the AIOU Science Block. VC Prof Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi presided over the ceremony. The college teachers from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Jehlum, Pind Dad Khan, Mithi, Tharparkar, Chakwal, Karachi and Hyderabad were also present in the 3-day workshop. Special lecturers were delivered on Ultraviolet Visible Spectroscopy, Infra-Red Spectroscopy, Polymers, Semiconductors, Supreconductors and Composite Material, Modern Inorganic Materials, UV & IR Instrumentation (Lab), Sterochemistry and Nano Materials. Addressing to the concluding session, Prof Sangi said that getting science education was also the right of the people in the remotest areas of the country and the AIOU was trying its best to provide those opportunities to the students. He said the AIOU was planning to start BSc programmes in remote areas of the country four science laboratories were also being established in regional offices.
The vice-chancellor also gave some suggestion to Prof Dr Naghmana Rashid, chairperson /workshop coordinator for the workshop. Prof Dr Naghmana Rashid said the AIOU Department of Chemistry was grateful to the vice-chancellor for his support in holding the workshop. She highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop. At the end, Prof Dr Sangi gave away certificates to the participants.
The participants who received certificates included Naeem-ur-Rehman (Talagang), Tariq Javed (Talagang), Saima Shaheen (Chakwal), Muhammad Irfan (Attock), Bhawani Shankar (Mithi), Shamim Akhtar (Karachi) and Shagufta Perveen (Rawalpindi).
