LHC CJ, judges condole death of Justice Afzal Zullah

Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Azmat Saeed and other judges expressed sorrows on the demise of Justice Muhammad Afzal Zullah, former chief justice of Pakistan, who passed away on Friday.
His funeral prayer was offered at Khalid Masjid, Cavalry Ground, after the Juma prayer, which was attended by the LHC CJ and other judges. He will be buried in his native village of Pothi Bijnial, Chakwal road near Mandara, Rawalpindi district.
He was born on April 19, 1928 at Bijnial. He graduated in Arts in 1948 from the Punjab University. In 1950 he received the degree in law from Punjab University and was enrolled as a pleader in 1950, when he started practice at Sahiwal. Later on, he shifted to Rawalpindi in 1951 and to Lahore in 1961.
He was appointed as additional judge of the West Pakistan High Court in May 1968 and became a permanent judge in 1979. In the same year, he became a member of the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He became the Chairman of the bench in 1982 and acted as the chief justice from March 4 to 7, 1984. Justice Zullah remained the chief justice of Pakistan from January 1, 1990, to March 1993.
He also remained the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore member syndicate, Multan University Board of Studies in Law member, Islamabad International University Board of trustees member and Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad Selection Board member. He was a renowned jurist, who had full faith in the supremacy of the constitution. He was a strong supporter of the enforcement of fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution of Pakistan.
