The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) ON Wednesday categorically denied meeting of DG ISI Ahmed Shuja Pasha with Arab leaders to oust Zardari government.
“It is clarified that DG ISI did not meet any Arab leader in between 1 to 9 May 2011 as mentioned in the article. DG ISI’s other visits to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and UAE only, prior to or after this period, were part of routine intelligence sharing activity, during which he interacted with his counterparts only,” said an ISPR statement.
“An article was published in the daily, Independent, UK on 13 December 2011, in which Omar Waraich has made false assertions regarding DG ISI’s visits to Arab countries. It has been said that the DG met senior Arab leaders and asked permission for a military coup in Pakistan. The story has been published without verification at any level,” the ISPR said.
“Contents of the article are strongly and categorically denied. A legal notice is being served to the newspaper to retract the story and apologise,” it added.
They took such a long time to respond. And that too after everybody asked them. It clearly shows that Kayani & Pasha were and are involved in acts of treason. The nation does not pay them so heavily to behave like that. When our Generals retire, the wealth acquired according to rules framed by themselves amounts to almost a billion. Of course, those who are involved in kickbacks on arms deals and other projects make much more.
I do not think it is mandatory to respond to every news item appearing in the press. How many times US or UK officials have responded to what is daily printed in our Media. I think western media is hell bound to create rift among institutions of the country. Whole issue is being regulated by media. Matter is in the court and lets be patient for a while.
@Khan. Sure, it is not necessary to respond to every news story. But, when the story accuses salaried government servants (yes, that is what generals are) of an act of treason, it should be responded to immediately. The fact that it took the ISPR more than a week to respond makes it very suspicious.
In any case, the Army is not an institution of the country. It is a subordinate department of the ministry of defence, as is the case in other countries.
