The leaders of Awami National Party (ANP) and Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) held a jirga (assembly of elders) on Tuesday to ensure the release of ANP’s Dalmia Ward president, who was arrested in a targeted operation by Rangers a couple of days ago. Defying the Supreme Court’s order of prohibition of holding jirgas in the country, the meeting was organised by the Shanti Nagar Welfare Association at a playground in the area.
Even the Aziz Bhatti police patronised the illegal community meeting and deployed security personnel at the venue.
JSQM chief Bashir Khan Qureshi and ANP MPA Amanullah Mehsud presided over the jirga that had started at around 7 pm.
At the meeting of elders, leaders of both the parties reached a decision by consensus that the cases registered against ANP activist Faik Khan – currently in jail over attempt to murder charges – would be withdrawn.
To enforce the decision, the ANP leadership pressurised the Shanti Nagar residents to withdraw the case so that Khan could be released from jail and an affidavit by both sides would be submitted in the court to ensure his early release.
Though the ANP leadership has time and again denied backing Khan in his criminal and anti-social activities, the representation of ANP by its sitting MPA proves that the party’s central leadership is allegedly supporting the criminals involved in murders, street crimes, etc.
