Many areas of the city including Landhi, Korangi, Quaidabad, Shah Faisal, North Karachi and Malir remained tense on Sunday following the release of Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi chief Afaq Ahmed a day earlier. Security forces, in six armoured vehicles, cordoned off the entry and exit points towards the residence of Ahmed. More than 40 security personnel were deputed around the residence of the Haqiqi chairman while dozens of party activists were also guarding him. Ahmed met with many office-bearers of his party on Sunday. “We will arrange a general gathering of activists where Afaq will speak to them,” a central leader of Haqiqi told Pakistan Today. “Afaq will also announce the party structure and the future course of action. The chairman will also visit the homes of the party’s martyrs and meet with their relatives,” he added. “We will also arrange a public gathering in Landhi soon and Afaq this will be our first step in the ongoing politics of the country.” The Haqiqi leader said the party would actively participate in the upcoming general elections. “We will join hands with all those political parties, which want peace in Karachi,” he added.
