Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday said the flood-hit areas would be reconstructed and developed per the commitment of the government.
He was responding to a point of order raised by Yusuf Talpur in the National Assembly. Talpur said several places and areas in the flooded areas were still under water and people needed assistance of the government.
He said some areas were disconnected as roads and other infrastructure had been badly affected by the floods and the government should take notice of the situation to help the flood victims.
National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza said the situation in many areas, particularly Umar Kot and Badin, was appalling and the prime minister should respond to the concern of the parliamentarians. Gilani said floods caused massive devastation in the last two years and the Damage Need Assessment of affected areas had been carried out. He added that donors’ money was being fully utilised for the reconstruction of rail and road networks and other infrastructure. The prime minister added that the Ministry of Communication and the National Highway Authority had been directed to accelerate work on the reconstruction of damaged roads.
Gilani also assured that the infrastructure of WAPDA damaged by the floods would also be repaired.
