Security forces launched raids on Saturday against activists of three banned militant organisations stated to be allegedly involved in the recent blasts in the city, Pakistan Today has learnt.
A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that three banned religious outfits – Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Punjabi Taliban – may be involved in the four bomb blasts that occurred in the city during the last one week.
From Safoora Goth, the law enforcers arrested 20 suspects having links with the banned organisations, who were allegedly involved in the roadside bomb attack on a Pakistan Rangers vehicle on Friday.
On their information, the security forces launched more crackdowns in different areas, including Sachal, Bhittaiabad and Jauhar Complex, where over a dozen suspects were arrested.
Separately, it was decided to establish more than 20 centres of ‘15 Madadgar’ across the city for tackling the law and order situation more efficiently.
The round-the-clock centres would be constituted in the jurisdictions of North Karachi Industrial Area and Ayesha Manzil police stations of District Central; SITE and Lalazar police stations of District West; Clifton beach, Lyari Town Police Officer and Saddar Dawakhana police stations of District South; and Brookes Chowrangi and Allah Wali Chowrangi police posts of District East.
The police helpline centres will start functioning in the coming week, while the Sindh inspector general of police announced a police mobile and a motorcycle for each centre with 50 police personnel deputed at each centre.
Meanwhile, four people were shot dead in separate violent incidents in the city on Saturday.
A man, identified as Zafar, was gunned down by unidentified assailants who opened fire at a book shop in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The residents of the area staged a protest against the man’s killing and blocked the road for two hours.
A man, named Zakir Hussain, was killed by unidentified attackers in Baldia Town while another was shot dead in the Korangi industrial area.
A man, identified as Irfan, was gunned down by robbers in North Karachi for trying to resist during a mobile snatching bid. His body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
Three people suffered bullet injuries in the Timber Market area when unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire at a hotel. The injured were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karachi.
In a separate incident, unidentified bandits snatched the official vehicle of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s Sindh Assembly Member Adil Khan.
