A seemingly innocuous statement issued by a military institute of cardiology asking people not to go abroad for treatment of heart diseases has raised questions about whether the Pakistan Army had an inkling of President Asif Ali Zardari’s plans to travel to Dubai, the Economic Times said in a report. The statement issued on November 23 by the Inter-Services Public Relations on behalf of the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology and National Institute of Heart Diseases said the state of the art facility “provides the best treatment to heart patients and there was no need for any heart patient to go abroad for treatment”. The institute’s spokesman said its executive director, Maj Gen Asif Ali Khan, had taken note of the case of a child from Peshawar who was suffering from a heart disease and had appealed to the president to help with his treatment abroad. The statement in Urdu, which was emailed to reporters, said Khan had asked the child’s family to contact the institute and said: “Since the institute is providing the best treatment, there is no need for any heart patient to go abroad anymore”. The statement and its timing has raised questions in Islamabad as to whether the military was aware of Zardari’s plans to travel abroad. “There definitely seems to be more to this than meets the eye,” a Western diplomat who was aware of the statement said.
I am sure that the ISI knew all about it. They probably also knew that was just a stunt to deflect attention from all the more important things happening in Pakistan.
When the President of Pakistan says he doesn't trust hospitals in Pakistan, he is doing two things, a) insulting every doctor, nurse, technician etc working in those hopsitals and b) failing in his capacity as President to improve them. If they are so bad, spend money on the health service and not on pleasure trips to Dubai.
Dear Dar, Nawaz Sharif also didn't trust Pakistani doctors and got his treatment in England. This was done recent past. Please be fair in comment even you may be 'Zardari Hater'.
we are talking about current 'President of Pakistan' and not about 'Zardari'
Another example of speculation. Why can't we get rid of it? Are we compulsive speculators? It is quite common to see top civil & military buraucrats going abroad for various treatments. We have very good doctors. The problem is that when they work in our country, they are not so efficient. However, when they work overseas, they are more efficient. Speaks volumes about our standard mindset.
That's not true, our doctors are brilliant in Pakistan as well. It's a matter of perception.
There is no need to spend exorbitant amounts of money on seeking treatment abroad. Develop services in PAKISTAN.
The Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology is no doubt equipped with the latest medical technolgy equipment, all of which costs a fortune. Please remember that it is the tax payer which funds the Defence Budget and the other government owned hospitals. Yet the poor people of Pakistan have no access to the best health facilities like the one owned and run by our armed forces. The charges for tratment at Armmed Forces Institute of Cardiology are mind boggling and beyond reach of even middle class, what to talk of poor masses. Why this obsession to mint money instead of providing services to the people and focus on corporate profit commercial ventures by khakis, when the funds are from tax payer. These facilities should be provided at the Cardiology centres such as SIC or PIC etc where every citizen can get subsidised medical care.
This is a non issue. If the president has gone abroad for treatment then he must be having good reasons for doing it.What is more important is that the president should recover early from his illness and resume his duties. This is good for the country.
Asif Zardari has been having treatment in Dubai for several years, it makes no sense to change your doctors at the last moment, I don't see the logic. I think Zardari did the right thing to shut everyone up, get out of the picture for a while. Somehow I feel better, he's taken off pressure from all the nonsensical issues… memos, border attacks from an ally and the growing public demand for superficial change.
Clever man
page unfound , why so ??
Probably some issue with your internet connection. Its working perfectly fine
Who is paying for his cost when every best possible treatment is available in Pakistan.?did some senior consultants panel advised hi -if not he must for every cost of treatment, air flight cost etc?
Why this rubish debate on this issue has engulfed the whole of the country? Instead of given proper attention for the nation`s problems? For Allah`s sake stop this argument.put the in the productive plans rathar than useless issues.Everybody has the right to go any where for treatments. There is not any conditions imposed the country`s Constitution. If Zardari Saheb is gone for medical treatment why a some of people feeling DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS`.Why the people are so much selfish that they do not realise other`s troubles.Plz.stop this topic and start praying for his recovery. It can happen with any dignity,so focus our energy and resources on country`s progress rather than destructive activities.

army knows all things warna Yeh * tu kab ka kha chuka hota mulk ko
"one can run but cannot hide", that's it.
whether its army or some kinda same setup which is so strong that one can run from it but cannot hide, its very much true
We waste too much time on "Non-issues". Zardari's illness and Memo-gate scam have diverted attentions of whole nation from their sufferings. It seems as if there is no other issue in the country. I think we need to change our attitude.
