The Lahore Medical and Dental College (LMDC) administration has ignored the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan’s (CPSP) directives to bring the salaries of trainee doctors at par with the government sector. The Punjab government in July 2011 raised the salaries of trainee doctors to Rs 42,500, with an annual increment of Rs 1,000, but LMDC refused to raise the salaries of the young doctors working in the medical college and their attached teaching hospital.
CPSP issued a directive to LMDC in September, directing them to raise the salaries of the postgraduate trainee doctors at par with government sector otherwise their accreditation status could be suspended. However, it was yet to be implemented.
Young Doctors’ Association (YDA) Pakistan officials Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Talha Sherwani, Dr Ghulam Qasim, Dr Muhamamd Khawar Khan have given an ultimatum of two weeks to the LMDC administration to raise the salaries of PG Trainees from Rs 16,000 to Rs 42,500, otherwise YDA would be forced to protest against the college on this issue.
