University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice Chancellor (VC) announced that a war would be waged against Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC), in solidarity with the medical students of four newly established medical colleges in Punjab who had been denied recognition from PM&DC. Nearly 100 students from Sahiwal Medical College, Khwaja Safdar Medical College Sialkot,Gujranwala Medical College and DG Khan Medical College gathered outside UHS to protest the delay in recognition of their institutions by PM&DC.
UHS VC Malik Mubashir, sympathising with the affected students, said he would stand by their side if they began a protest movement against PM&DC. He said PM&DC had become Private Medical & Dental Council and was playing with the futures of 800 medical students and their families, while persuading students to leave the road which they had blocked to protest for their demands. The VC, however, sternly asked students to appear in provisional examinations otherwise, he warned, they would be considered fail in the exam. “Any delay in the provisional examinations or composite will be over my dead body,” Mubashir said in meeting with the protesters’ representatives.
