LAHORE – The provincial government has decided to offload surplus wheat stocks to lessen the burden of mark-up and other incidental charges, which are incurred on wheat storage and handling.
The Punjab Secretary Food has announced that the provincial government is willing to sell wheat stocks to domestic exporters on the basis of 30 to 45 days letter of credit. Provincial Secretary Food Irfan Elahi said that to facilitate the wheat exports the department was offering wheat on letters of credit.
In addition, the government has decided to bear the transportation charges of up to Rs 600 per tonne of those exporters who export more than 100,000 tonnes of wheat. Elahi believed that the decision would help in disposing off the surplus wheat at better rates, while the exporters would get relief in terms of a reduction in transportation charges.
