The process of regularising villages, suspended following some complaints, will be restarted soon, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Friday.
He was presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House about going ahead with the process of issuing leases to the people, who were rendered homeless after hundreds of ancient villages were demolished by the previous government.
“The regularisation process of genuine and eligible villages came to halt owing to some complaints. However, after the issuance of an inquiry order, a detailed investigation has been finalised,” Shah said.
The chief minister set up a committee that will visit and verify the relevant villages in the light of previous reports and finalise the list within 15 days.
Speaking about the history of the demolished villages, Shah said that most of them existed before the creation of Pakistan while some even dated back to many centuries.
“The previous government seemed bent on destroying old villages, and unnecessarily harassing the inhabitants,” he added.
The chief minister said that as per the policy under the manifesto of the Pakistan People’s Party, all these villages are to be regularized.
Shah warned that no delay shall be tolerated in the process of preparation, finalisation and submission of lists beyond the deadline of December 17.
He instructing the officials concerned to complete the whole process of regularising villages and allot leases within three months.
He instructed that the list of 56 villages, already finalised and approved, ought to be taken up early and 3,800 sanads, already prepared but in pending, be distributed.
