CDA likely to shut down dancing fountain

It is feared that the dancing fountain, recently imported and installed at the 7th Avenue by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and which attracts a number of visitors daily, may be shut off permanently.
Pakistan Today leaned on Saturday that the CDA had no technical staff to maintain the fountain and it could become the reason of its possible closure.
The CDA imported at least 9 cyber fountains from China through a private contractor and the authority could so far install three of them in the various parts of the city such as the 7th avenue, Shaheen Chowk and the 9th Avenue or PTICL Chowk. The remaining would be installed at places such as Peshawar Morr, Rawal Chowk, Kashmir Chowk, an official told Pakistan Today.
Seeking anonymity, he shared his concerns with this scribe that the fountain might not be operational in future and hence the CDA would have to face a loss of over Rs 9 million spent on the project since. He said the CDA had to hire the services of Chinese experts after the fountain developed some fault and that hiring foreign technicians was not a permanent solution.
He said CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi had also expressed his concerns, during a recently held meeting, over the lack of technical staff. The source quoted the chairman as saying that subscribing the services of foreign experts was not feasible because it would be a waste of money and time.
He said the fountain of 10-30-metre radius was operated with laser-lights and the 200KV powered fountain could shoot water up to a height of around nine meters. “The fountain’s functioning involves the use of sound waves and laser light against water’s particles. The water streams refract the light and, thus, a three-dimensional image is created. Such kinds of fountains, with computer-controlled timing, can only be in Dubai and Singapore”, he added.
Another problem irking the CDA officials is lack of appropriate parking space around the fountain and the authority is receiving a number of complaints daily.
Despite these odds, technical mostly, the fountain of dancing colours remains a feature attraction in the entire neighbourhood. The visitors enjoy its rhythmic movement, bright colours and cool ambiance. “It looks so beautiful in the dark that ever passer-by has to stop by and look at it for a while,” said Adan Zeb, a visitor. The visitors have demand the CDA should install a traffic sign warning drivers to slow down on the roads around the fountain.
