Various winter ailments are likely to grip a large amount of people, owing to the dry winter spell. Citizens are already suffering from viral diseases due to the lack of rains over the past few months, but the risk has multiplied since there is no chance of rain the coming days also.
Common winter diseases include dry and itchy skin, seasonal allergies, chest congestion and runny noses especially during the dry weather. According to medical experts children are more vulnerable to these diseases therefore proper precautionary measures should be taken.
Experts have asked people to prepare themselves well in advance for a change in the season, as many people fall prey to the winter diseases due to the lack of preparation. Dr Salman Kazmi told Pakistan Today that the people suffering from flu and other diseases should not cough and sneeze openly as these ailments can easily be transmitted to the other people. He also blamed the foggy and misty environment for the increase in diseases and said the exponential growth of these ailments has been witnessed over the years. He also warned the people of self-medication and asked them to seek help from a good physician. Doctors have also advised the motorcyclists to wear proper clothing as there was a greater risk of winter related diseases among them. Waseem, who treats his dry skin every winter, said the brands selling cold creams use different ways to increase their sales during the season. He was of the view that these cold creams can sometime prove to be counter-productive and can have side effects and suggested the use of natural moisturizers and oils including coconut oil and rose water.
Dry skin problems are also very common during the winters and medical experts suggested suitable nutrition as cure, which can also help take care of health and skin as vitamins boost immunity. Vitamin C can also help prevent common cold and flu. On the other hand temperature has been falling at quite a pace, increasing the risk of the diseases. According to the Met office, the temperature is likely to go down significantly from the next week.
