UK Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Mark Sedwill has said that Pakistan should use its influence to bring Haqqani Group as well as other militant groups to the negotiation table.
He said in an email sent to media on Friday that a daily newspaper published his interview which was misquoted. In his clarification, he said during interview he actually said,” So as the process of reconciliation may be started.”
“We do understand how challenging that is, so it’s not a question of asking Pakistan to take on the Haqqani Group but, of course, we want to see Pakistan doing its up most to minimise the threat from the Haqqanis and indeed minimise the threat from all the other militant groups that base themselves either in the border areas or tribal areas or whatever [areas] of Pakistan,” he added.
