British forensic experts would visit the Sindh Police’s Forensic Division next month to impart training of fingerprinting analysis and DNA testing.
This was disclosed at a briefing held at the Forensic Division of Sindh Police at Police Headquarters, Garden.
The briefing was attended among others by Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, Additional IGP (AIGP) Crime, AIGP Karachi, AIGP Crime Investigation Department, AIGP Logistics, AIGP Operations Sindh, Deputy IGP (DIGP) Crime, DIGP Transport and Telecommunication, DIGP Headquarters, DIGP Establishment and DIGP Traffic Karachi.
During his presentation, Forensic Division AIGP Munir Sheikh highlighted the functioning of the forensic division with special reference to its training facilities. “Around 200 police personnel of Karachi, Larkana and Hyderabad units have been trained so far in courses of Crime Scene Technician, Crime Scene Management, Physical Evidence Analysis, Basic Detective, Finger Print Proficient and First Responder.”
Sheikh informed the participants that more investigative units were being established at Sukkur and Mirpurkhas. “A proposal is under consideration to have an independent Forensic Unit (Monica Unit) in each district to cater to the day to day requirements of investigations.”
Stressing upon the importance and significance of Forensic Division in investigation processes, the Sindh IGP directed the forensic personnel to visit the crime scenes in case of all heinous crimes to augment the detection of evidence and arrest criminals.
Shah also appreciated the efforts of the Forensic Division and emphasised the need to improve the functioning further by strengthening the training protocol.
