The Met Office informed on Wednesday that fog is likely to intensify in coming days due to the prevailing dry weather.
Lahore witnessed foggiest conditions of the current winter on Wednesday, putting life of countless citizens at halt. The Met Office claimed that foggy conditions would prevail until downpour in central parts of the city. Citizens faced enormous difficulties due to fog, as the Lahore to Islamabad Motorway was closed at night due to fog and reopened at 10am on Wednesday. People were not able to reach offices on time, as dense fog was witnessed mostly in open areas such as Model Town, Punjab University New Campus, Township and Walton.
A worker at the WAPDA House said that his office bus was not able to pick him on time due to fog and consequently most employees did not reach office on time. The same situation was observed in educational institutions where students suffered due to early morning timings. Met Office Chief Meteorologist Riaz Khan told Pakistan Today that fog was likely to intensify, as there were no chances of rain in central parts of the country in coming few days. The Met Office also directed citizens to visit its website www.pakmet.com.pk to get the latest update about the fog situation at motorways. The Met Office also informed that mainly dry weather was expected in most parts of the country today (Thursday) but light rain might hit at one or two places of Gilgit-Baltistan and adjoining hilly areas while foggy or misty conditions were likely to prevail in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including motorway and GT Road, and Sukkur during late night and early morning.
The minimum temperature dropped to 13 degrees Celsius in the city while 27 degrees Celsius was the maximum temperature recorded in Lahore on Wednesday. According to Met Office experts, fog emerged under light wind and humid conditions when air near the ground cooled down sufficiently and water vapours in the air were condensed into tiny water droplets. These droplets reduced the visibility near the ground level and the same situation emerged for the last few days.
