An application was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday seeking court orders to the government to conduct a poly-graphic lie detection test of former Pakistan ambassador for US Husain Haqani, in order to find the truth about the memogate scandal.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffery filed the application in his main petition, pending in the court, for placing the name of Husain Haqqani on the Exit Control List (ECL). The petitioner submitted that a lie detection test is necessary to resolve the controversy of memo/letter against the Pakistan Army that was allegedly sent by Haqqani to US military chief Mike Mullen through Mansoor Ijaz. He said that after Haqqani’s resignation, the government is trying to rest the matter and hide the facts associated with the memogate controversy. The petition impleaded Haqqani, Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Attorney General Anwar-ul-Haq. He said that the former ambassador had damaged the repute of the country through the memo and committed sedition against the state.
The petitioner alleged that Husain Haqqani was a man of an average qualification but was appointed as ambassador in US in violation of merit.
