Defence analysts and politicians believe that the sacking of Husain Haqqani would not diffuse the tension between the civilian and military leadership, as the ball will keep on rolling until all faces behind the ‘memogate’ are punished in light of an inquiry into the scam.
Lt Gen (r) Talat Masood said the acceptance of Husain Haqqani’s resignation was just the beginning of the process. “The process has just started … the outcome of detailed inquiry into the issue will define relations between the government and military establishment,” he said. He said the inquiry would reveal all facts revolving around the issue and would also expose motives behind the move if the allegations of Mansoor Ijaz proved right. “It is a complicated situation and things will not become stabile with mere resignation of Haqqani,” he added.
PPP-Sherpao chief Aftab Khan Sherpao said it was the first step and the “memogate” scandal would not stop there. “This is the first step. The ball will keep rolling and will not stop here. The investigations are yet to begin and its fallout is yet to occur,” Sherpao said, adding that the fallout could be explosive.
General (r) Hamid Gul said things in Pakistan would not stabilise with the ouster of Husain Haqqani only. “The probe into the ‘memogate’ will reach its logical conclusion… not only Haqqani but a team of Pakistanis was involved in the scandal as is revealed by the memorandum … other members of the team must also face the music,” Gul said. He said in his opinion, Americans had exposed the memo as the Pakistani rulers had failed to honour their commitments made with the US administration on introducing radical changes in the country’s security system. PML-N Senator Mushahidullah said the fallout of the ‘memogate’ would be drastic and the nation needs to be taken into confidence and briefed on how things occurred.
He said Haqqani was forced to resign and it was yet to be proven who was guilty, as the ambassador himself was unable to do all by himself. The PML-N senator also added that independent judicial inquiry should be conducted into the issue.

  1. If former Ambassador Haqqani is the tip than President Zardari is the iceberg!
And icebergs have already started to melt at an alarming rate because of the global warming.

  2. Time has come when all peace loving honest Patriot Pakistanis contribute to buy a island some where deep in Pacific ocean and start sending all corrupt politicians, chor businessmen, murder Taliban and haqqanis and all such characters for rest of their live to live in isolation where they grow their own food and barely survive and remember those days when they used to live with their love ones.

They have to live and die in that island. I am sure we can send enough people who can grow good grain for Pakistan and send that back to meet growing food requirements of Pakistan. In this way we can maintain price of food also get rid of bad peoples and can become abolish capital punishment. Living and die alone is sentence that will be best deterrence against blue and white collar crimes

  3. Memogate scandal is just there to harm the good name of President Zardari and his government. You need not to go any further but just to read the profile of this man Mansoor Ijaz who has initiated all this mudslinging: Mansoor Ijaz is an American citizen who was born in Florida America in 1961. Mansoor Ijaz’s full name if Mussawar Mansoor Ijaz and he is a Qadyani. Yes he belongs to the Ahmadiyya Jamat and his father is a nuclear scientist and left Pakistan. Mansoor Ijaz completed all his studies in US and then started a firm with the General James Allen who was a close aide of President Reagon and also a close friend of the then CIA chief Wesley. Mansoor Ijaz has always been touted as the CIA agent and during the Clinton era, he offered Clinton administration that he was ready to work with CIA to convince the Pakistani government of Benazir Bhutto Shaheed to rollback the Pakistani nuclear program. He also offered Pakistani government through back channels that he could get them F-16 planes for free and write off of debt, if Pakistan accepts Israel. Now this man is out there once again and claims that he delivered the memo of ambassador Haqqani to out of all of the people to Mike Mullen, the same Mullen who “coincidentally” threatened Pakistan not long ago.
