Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan on Thursday opened the show for Bin Qalandar’s calligraphic works at the Ejaz Art Gallery, where many people, including well-known literary person Mustansan Hussain Tarar, were present. Aitzaz cut the ribbon to launch the exhibition, where several students of art as well as collectors had come to view the paintings. Qalandar’s paintings were incredible, with their thick broad large brush strokes, immaculately colouring the background and painting some large Arabic words with the same brush, so that their effect was like a piece of twisted satin ribbon. Rest of the calligraphy was scattered around the canvas done in mixed media, with different brush sizes.
Qalandar’s magnificent eye for colour was praised by Shamim Akhtar for launch of the exhibition who says that his paintings are a “landmark in the genre of calligraphy. The art critic continues to laud the style describing his “rhythmic and logical works” creating a “picture of design, colour sensibility and flow of line.”
Qalandar uses Iranian Khat-e-Shiksta and Khat-e-Diwani for his work. His paintings use a much brighter colour coupled with a more neutral shade such as fawn, white or cream, which could depict the spirituality of the human being transporting from the consciousness to the unconsciousness or the other way round. Aitzaz flew especially from Islamabad and complimented the artist for his works and his talent.
