A two-day international conference on ‘Globalization and its Impacts on Indigenous Cultures’ started in International Islamic University Islamabad on Thursday. The conference was organised by Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) in collaboration with Thinking Forum of the Department of English Language and Literature of IIUI and International Institute of Islamic Thoughts, (IIIT), USA. Speaking at the first day of the conference Ms Noor Amna Malik, director general (learning innovation), Higher Education Commission (HEC), said there was no other strong symbol of globalisation except the holy prophet (PBUH).
She said frequent symbols of globalisation were Face book, YouTube and other social websites, adding one could interact with the whole world within minutes through these tools. “Pakistan should acquire the new technology to remain with the globe like India to prove that we are part of the world globalisation,” she suggested. Renowned educationist, Dr Shahid Siddiqui, said that death of language meant death of peculiar viewpoint, identity, previous life experiments and social history. Globalisation had also affected world languages for 2,471 languages of 7,000 languages of the world were endangered owing to globalisation. IIUI President Dr Mumtaz Ahmad, Dr Sahibzada Sajid-ur Rehman, Dr Talib Hussain Sial, Dr Noor Fatima and Dr Munazza Yaqoob of the IIUI also spoke on various aspects of globalisation and its impacts.
