ISLAMABAD – Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Major General Athar Abbas has said that no foreign troops would be allowed to launch ground offensive in the Tribal Areas and an operation continued in the Tribal Areas to maintain law and order.
Major General Abbas said foreign troops had neither been allowed to conduct ground operations in Pakistan, nor would they be allowed to do so in the future.
He said the arrival of terrorists from across the border was the main reason behind the deteriorating law and order situation in Bajaur and Mohmand agencies. He said the army and law enforcement agencies gained many achievements in 2010, but the fact could not be neglected that a terrorist could blow himself anytime anywhere.
Abbas said five army brigades were present in North Waziristan, adding that an operation was underway in North Waziristan. To a question, Major General Abbas said almost 900 checkposts have been set up along the Pak-Afghan border, but it was not just Pakistan’s responsibility to check illegal movements, “citizens should maintain a vigilant eye on illegal border crossings as well”.
