A brawl broke out between two groups of lawyers on Wednesday at the District Courts that left two of them seriously injured. According to details, Karam Elahi Advocate and Chaudhry Asif Advocate were the counsels in a murder case registered against Khurram Shahzad in Tarnol Police Station. As they came out of the court of Additional Sessions Judge Yar Muhammad Gondal after presenting their arguments on Tuesday, they started quarrelling with each other. It ended in a scuffle, as Chaudhry Arif and his colleagues attacked Karam Elahi and Gul Nawaz. The lawyers again appeared before the court on Thursday where they resorted to violence in the courtroom after getting angry over passing some remarks with each other remarks.
The fight resulted in head injuries to Karam and Nawaz while the windowpanes of the court chamber and Photostat machine were also damaged. Later, the injured lawyers were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Talking to Pakistan Today, Islamabad Bar Association General Secretary Arbab Gujjar said they had constituted a committee to look into the matter and strict action would be taken against the culprits. He said lawyers were supposed to protect the litigants and not to spoil the sanctity of the profession. He said they did not allow the lawyers to register FIR against each other as it would harm the image of the lawyers’ community in the society. He expressed the hope that similar incident would never be repeated in future.
