Accountability court accepts Majid Naeem’s application

An accountability court on Tuesday allowed an application filed by former Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) principal Dr Majid Naeem, seeking permission to get important documents from his confiscated car. Dr Majid’s car had been confiscated by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday at the time of his arrest. In his application, he had asked the court to pass an order for the release of his personal documents which he has to produce before the judicial commission formed by the Lahore High Court (LHC) over the failure of online system prepared to hold the statistical data of matric and intermediate examinations and results. After allowing the application, the court adjourned the hearing of reference filed against Dr Majid Naeem till November 21 and summoned prosecution witness Sadiq Ali Gill for the next date of hearing.
A reference is pending in accountability court against Dr Majid over the charges of misappropriation of Rs 27,97,850 through the misuse of authority. The accused is in NAB custody on physical remand till November 21. Suzuki Motors: An accountability court on Tuesday handed over former Suzuki Motors Sialkot accountant Khalid Mahmood NAB on physical remand till November 29. Khalid was arrested on Monday over the charges of misappropriation of Rs 380 million. Kanal Motors: An accountability court on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of Kanal Motors directors Hafiz Usman Yousaf, Rana Qaisar Nazeer, Muhammad Anwar Khan, Mohsin Abbasi and Ahsan Abbasi till November 29. The accused persons had offered attractive packages of profit on investment in sale and purchase of cars. They allegedly misappropriated Rs 1.2 million and transferred the money to accounts of Benamidars. The court, while extending the remand, directed the NAB authorities to file a reference against the accused by the next date of hearing.
Tawakal Group: An accountability court on Tuesday issued a non bail-able arrest warrant of a businessman from the Tawakal Group in Karachi Abdul Qadir Tawakal till November 28. A reference of wilful bank default of hundreds of millions of rupees is pending in an accountability court against Abdul Qadir. Despite being issued several summons, the accused has not appeared before the court yet. Therefore, the court issued his non bail-able arrest warrant on Tuesday.
