LAHORE – The crippling industry has been hit by another shock as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has decided to increase gas curtailment hours for Punjab industries during January.
The SNGPL was supplying three and half days in a week gas to the industrial sector. This has now been increased to four days; sources said adding that load-shedding would be done on rotational basis.
This decision was associated with the cold temperature and rising demand of gas for domestic users. Currently, SNGPl claimed it is supplying 925mmcf to the domestic users.
The industrial sector was already observing 84 hours (three and half day) in a week gas curtailment, an industrialist said. He further said that gas curtailment would be observed according to the agreement and under the National Energy Saving Campaign.
Gas supply to the industries of Lahore, Shaikhupura and Sahiwal regions were halted on December 27 and it will be restored today (Friday) but in the next phase, the gas supply to Faisalabad’s industries will be halted for four days. The gas supplies would also remain suspended in factories of Islamabad, Gujranwala, Multan and Bahawalpur region on the same dates.
