Opening batsman David Warner has been named as a replacement player in Australia’s squad for this week’s second Test against South Africa in Johannesburg, Cricket Australia said on Sunday.
The New South Wales batsman will replace Shaun Marsh, who is continuing his recovery from a back injury suffered during last week’s first Cape Town Test.
Warner is hoping for a Test debut in Thursday’s match and will be competing for a spot with NSW teammate Usman Khawaja, who is already with the squad in South Africa.
Warner will leave for the republic on Monday and join the Australian squad in Johannesburg.
