The Higher Education Commission on Wednesday approved award of indigenous scholarships under the project “PhD Fellowship for 5,000 Scholars” on quota basis as per the federal government policy. The decision was taken at 19th meeting of the National Scholarship Management Committee (NSMC) held here with HEC Executive Director Dr Sohail Naqvi in the chair. The meeting was attended by representatives of the four provincial governments, Planning Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology and HEC officials.
The committee, for the first time, approved award of indigenous scholarships under the project “PhD Fellowship for 5,000 Scholars” on quota basis as per the federal government policy.
As many as 650 scholarships were provisionally awarded in the light of the decision of the ECNEC meeting held on July 29, 2011, which agreed to the HEC’s proposal to award local scholarships on quota basis after the 18th Amendment. The members were told that, being a federal government organisation, the HEC would ensure implementation of quota policy in the award of indigenous and foreign scholarships in future as well. The members appreciated the decision and hoped it would help promote inter-provincial harmony and remove regional disparities.

  1. Oh really! I applied for this scholarship and was expecting to get it because I’m from Gilgit Baltistan. If this was on the quota basis then how many of GB students were selected in the field of biological sciences. I don’t believe on the credibility and wordings of HEC any more. I was one of the supporter of HEC when government took the decision of devolving HEC but now I think I was totally wrong.

  2. I do not think so it is fair chance. I have had more than 80 in GAT. with all first class creer and belongs to punjab. But not selected on the qouta system bandar bant.

    • if you really got 80 score in gat and you fulfill the criteria of mphil leading to PhD program thn you must contact hec bcz the cutoff score is 72 for punjab. there might be some issue with your application ,follow it up or you will lose a great chance.last date 30th November.

  3. Quata base researchers, amazing, our lords always decide new thing in world, but every decision is possible in the country where Dr. Rehman Malik can get degree.

  4. I agree with Nomi and Dil Nawaz Khan. It is not fair.
All the students were not struggling to stop dissolution of HEC for such a quota/ bandar bant system. But we can expect it from officials having FA pass president, PhD degree holder foreign minister and many more.

  5. than develop the same universities and facilities in GB and other parts if you are dying for merit . Or come to same place where these people of GB are . Than compete
