Target killers strike yet again; two murders reek of sectarian hate

The Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) Malir head and a witness of the attack on Allama Hassan Turabi were killed by the firing of unidentified assailants on Sunday. ASWJ Malir head Abdul Jabbar was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The victim’s body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
Following the incident, fear gripped different areas of the city – including Malir, Korangi, Shah Faisal and Nagan Chowrangi – where incidents of aerial firing were reported, confining the locals to their houses, suspending vehicular traffic, and resulting in closure of shops and petrol pumps. In a separate incident, a witness of the attack on Allama Hassan Turabi was shot dead by unidentified culprits in Malir City.
The body of Qasim Rana was shifted to the JPMC. In yet another incident, an unidentified man was killed at Nagan Chowrangi and his body was shifted to the JPMC. Separately, unidentified assailants shot dead Noor Khan Mehsud in Sector 11 of Manghopir. The victim suffered 10 bullet wounds on different parts of his body. He was a resident of Kanwari Colony and hailed from Waziristan. He was working at a marble factory.
Another man was killed by unidentified people in Chittagong Colony located in Pak Colony. The victim was identified as Aziz, a fisherman, and a citizen of Bangladesh. A man named Dilawar was murdered by unidentified people while resisting a robbery attempt in North Nazimabad. The victim was a tailor. Police arrested a bootlegger and three drug peddlers from different parts of the city on Sunday. They conducted a raid in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and arrested a suspect. A huge quantity of liquor was recovered from his possession.
The police also conducted raids in Soldier Bazaar, Mobina Town and Baldia Town and arrested three drug peddlers. A large quantity of drugs and weapons were recovered from their possession. Three people suffered injuries in a clash between two groups returning from the rally held earlier on Sunday. The incident took place in Gulistan-e-Jauhar and the wounded men were shifted to nearby hospitals.
