Chinese Foundation seeks BISP’s partnership

Pakistan and brother neighbouring country China have a tremendous scope to work together for improving the lives of the poor segment of their population and to enhance mutual cooperation in the social sector. Both the countries can benefit from each other’s experiences, especially in the area of vocational and technical training programme. This consensus emerged on the occasion of a meeting of a delegation of China Cultural Heritage Foundation (CCHF) with Federal Minister and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Progarmme (BISP), Madame Farzana Raja.
The Chinese delegation was led by Chairperson CCHF Madame Geng Ying while Secretary BISP Mr Sher Khan along with other high level officials was also present in the meeting. Madam Fazrana Raja, during the meeting, informed the delegation that her recent visit to China proved highly successful as she has signed various important MOUs with public and private sector organisations of China including CCHF with the objective of enhancing mutual cooperation in the social sector. Madam Geng Ying, Chairperson CCHF on the occasion said that her organisation is intending to launch a project in the area of vocational training for women and children which will further strengthen the partnership between BISP and CCHF. She said that her organisation is willing to impart training to women and children in various regions of Pakistan and they seek cooperation of BISP in this regard.
Federal Minister and Chairperson BISP Farzana Raja welcomed the suggestion and maintained that BISP has complete data of 27 million households of Pakistan, which constitute 90 per cent of the population of the country. Besides, she said BISP has launched vocational and technical training programmes for its 7 million beneficiary families and is all set to launch another scheme to provide education to one million children of these families who are unable to go to school due to abject poverty. Madam Farzana Raja informed the delegation that a project in the area of vocational training has already been initiated with the cooperation of China Foundation for Peace and Development.
