Halloween’s Night will be celebrated in Lahore along with the rest of the world on October 31. Although the horror-themed festival is concentrated basically in the US and Canada, followed by Ireland and Scotland but in Pakistan, Halloween is not a mass celebration but in urban centers, there are various private parties, along with those that require passes where the celebratory spirit is high. Around the world, Halloween is celebrated in different ways, but usually there is a tradition of wearing costumes and then going ‘trick or treating’. There are also firework displays and carved out pumpkins with lamps inside called ‘Jack o Lanterns’. Halloween costumes are traditionally modeled after supernatural figures such as monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches and devils. Shazia, 17, says that she will be dressing as a witch, the most popular option for girls, in a party on the night. “It’s really easy to dress as a witch. The other costumes require a lot of work and I’m a bit short on time,” she says.
Age doesn’t matter where having fun is concerned. Adil, 37, admits he has put in a lot of effort in thinking about what to wear on Halloween as a costume. Finally he has decided on going as a monster. Being an artist, he says, his wife would help dress him up for it.
