Compensation for domestic air passengers increased to Rs 5 million

The Upper House of parliament would approve a piece of legislation today (Friday), aimed at enhancing the liability on account of death of a domestic air passenger to Rs 5 million. The House, on Thursday, completed the first reading of “The Carriage by Air Bill, 2011” moved by Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar.
The bill, already passed by the National Assembly, seeks enhancement of compensation for passengers of domestic air travel in case of an accident to Rs 5 million. The chairman observed that insurance policies of the Airlines should also be reviewed in line with the requirements of the new law.
