An alleged militant affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was arrested during a search operation in Kanwari Colony by Peerabad police and Frontier Constabulary personnel. Police said that one Kalashnikov, one repeater, four hand grenades and some explosives were recovered from Usman Ghani, a TTP commander. “He was involved in attacks on the Pakistan Army and had come to Karachi for medical treatment. He also visited the Civil Hospital,” an officer said. The suspect was shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, police recovered a suicide jacket and explosives from a graveyard located in the Gharibabad area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Law enforcers raided the Essa Nagri graveyard and recovered a suicide jacket, explosives, nuts and bolts, a detonator and a timer device. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) deactivated the equipment. A BDS officer said it was connected with a timer device, but there were no explosives in the jacket. Explosives were dumped in a separate place in the graveyard and were confiscated by the local police. They registered a FIR and started an investigation. Separately, two people were shot and wounded on resistance during a robbery attempt near the Hyderi Market in North Nazimabad. The injured men were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police registered an FIR against unidentified suspects.
