Seminar stresses vigilance to deal with radiation

The Department of Physics at the Faculty of Basic and Applied Sciences (FBAS) of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) organised a seminar on “Application of Ionizing Radiations in Everyday Life: Its Hazards and Protection” on Tuesday in collaboration with Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA). PNRA Senior Scientific Officer Asad Ejaz Goraya was the guest speaker while FBAS Dean Dr Muhammad Irfan Khan presided over the seminar. Faculty of Engineering and Technology Dean Dr Ghulam Yasin Chuhan, Department of Physics Chairperson Dr Waqar Adil Sayyed, faculty members and a large number of students attended the event, says a press release.
Asad Ejaz Goraya gave a brief presentation on the hazards and safety measures from the radiation. He stressed the importance of an awareness campaign to inform the people how to protect the environment and said the purpose of the seminar was to provide knowledge about the safe operations of the radiation-based facilities and to protect the students, teachers as well as the environment from the hazardous radiation effects. Waqar Adil Syed gave a brief introduction of the department and its academic programmes and said it had recently acquired and installed some equipment to deal with radiation.
