Motorcycle industry is one of the most vibrant manufacturing sectors of Pakistan. It has been maintaining an average growth rate of around 15 per cent per annum for the last five years. Local motorcycle industry has achieved localisation level in excess of 92 per cent.
Atlas Honda Limited (AHL) General Manager (R&D and Projects) Afaq Ahmad made these remarks while addressing journalists at Pakistan Auto Parts Show 2011 – PAPS 2011 here on Tuesday. He disclosed that AHL had exported 12,450 motorcycles to different countries, during the first five months of the current fiscal and had already surpassed the previous years’ benchmarks. AHL was contributing significantly to make ‘Made in Pakistan’ motorcycles more acceptable in the world markets, he added.
Ahmad underscored that AHL was fully committed to achieve 100 per cent localisation by supporting domestic auto parts industry. Being a pioneer two-wheeler manufacturer, AHL had always fulfilled its commitment to the country by making its contribution to the national economy and creating employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled workforce.
He pointed out that AHL was the first company in the auto sector that went for technology transfer agreements with some of the world’s best. Over the years the company inked seven such agreements, which resulted in transfer of technical know-how for local manufacturing of high-tech parts such as ignition coil, ACG flywheel, drum gear shift, fuel cock, brake shoe, etc. In addition, during the same time it helped local auto vending industry by arranging transfer of technology agreements with 12 of its vendors. These critical agreements had not only helped Pakistan in developing local manufacturing base, but also made the country competitive in pricing, he maintained.
