Former national champion Muhammad Asif, fifth seed Sultan Muhammad and Asjad Iqbal smashed spectacular century beaks to storm into the last 16 rounds of the Jubilee Insurance National Ranking Snooker Championship at Karachi Gymkhana Billiards Hall here on Tuesday.
Fourth seed Asif from Faisalabad compiled tournament’s highest and swift of 138 in the second frame while handing out 4-1 drubbing to Muhammad Imran of Punjab.
Lanky Asif, who had the honor of representing in World and Asian Snooker Championship was on break-building as chalked out the breaks of 96, 75, 66 and 42 during other frame to show his class by grabbing his third win in a row to top group “D”.
Fast rising Sultan Muhammad hammered the break of 121 in the opening frame but went down to former world amateur champion Muhammad Yousuf 1-4. However Sultan finished on the top in group “E” with two points.
Asjad Iqbal of Punjab made a smart break of exact 100 in the second frame to defeat Zahoor Ahmed of Baluchistan 4-1. After draught of century break on the first two day, the third day saw as many as three century breaks. Second seed Sohail Shahzad of Sindh, third seed Muhammad Sajjad of Punjab, seventh seed Abdul Sattar of Sindh also entered the last 16 stage by registering third win in a row. Shahid Aftab, Umair Alam also cruised into the knock-out rounds. The pre-quarterfinals matches will be played in two sessions. First session will start at 10:00am while the second session will be held at 2:00pm.
