Massive protests were staged in Lahore, Gujranwala and Multan by students of various colleges affiliated with the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE) on Tuesday against the Board authorities for announcing ‘faulty’ results of Intermediate Part II examinations.
The majority of protestors belonged to Government Asghar Mall College and Garden College. They marched over Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR), carrying bamboo sticks in their hands and blocking traffic. They also protested outside the BISE Building on 6th Road where they also torched tyres. The protesting students raised slogans against the RBISE chairman and Punjab Government for announcing faulty results.
They were of the view that the RBISE’s negligence concerning their results had put the future of hundreds of students at stake. The protesting students demanded that the RBISE chairman cancel the Intermediate part II examination results. The students claimed that they had attempted their papers very well but they were awarded very low marks and were even declared failed in some subjects.
“In some cases, arts students were declared passed in science subjects,” said Ali Asghar, a student of Garden College. RBISE Chairman Dr Qasim, assured the students that the affected students’ papers would be rechecked. After this assurance, the protesting students dispersed peacefully. Talking to Pakistan Today, RBISE Spokesman Arslan Cheema said that following the Punjab Government’s decision, all papers of Intermediate part-I would be rechecked in 45 days while the affected students of part II examinations could submit their applications and their papers would be rechecked with 10 days.
