Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani approved the conferment of the highest civil award ‘Nishan-e-Imtiaz’ on Begum Nusrat Bhutto for her relentless fight against dictatorship spanning over decades.
In recognition of her struggle for democracy and the untold agonies suffered for the cause, the government also conferred on her the special title of Madr-e-Jamhooriyat.
The announcement was made just when the last remains of Begum Bhutoo accompanied by President Aif Ali Zardari, Sanam Bhutto, Bilawal Bhutto, Bakhtawar Bhutto, and Aseefa Bhutto were about to land at Sukkur airport for the burial in mausoleum of Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.
Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar quoted Gilani as saying that there would be no politics over her death and everyone, regardless of political and family differences, were welcome to participate in the last rites and pay homage to the icon of democracy.

no, i DONT think she did anything so great that she deserves such an honor, since the culmination of her work, even if it did somehow cause the restoration of civilian democracy, ultimately led to a PPP govt. All ppp govt`s, other than the one when senior bhutto was alive, were utter failiures similar, and in many ways worse off, than the other civilian govts. And even ZAB`s govt was a flop in its last days. Of course, his legacy is profound and he is arguably the best politician after the Quaid, and the nuclear weapons program on the shoulders of which this country stands today. I think the sitara-e-imtiaz, the public and govt holiday, is a bit too much. Of course, if the ppp wanted to make soz they could have done it discreetly. The sitara e imtiaz should be reserved for people who commit distinguished acts which are noble prize worthy.

I respect her but she is feudal who kept her property confined to her family hundreds of acres and they always chants slogans in the favor of poor people. But how? Agar dard hai awam ka tau apni zameed un ghareeb ghari khuda baksh walun ko nam kar do. She dont deserve it. Bhuto, shreefs, tribal leaders and corrupt generals should be thrown out of this country.
