Around 2.2 million children would be administered polio vaccine drops and a dose of vitamin A in 18 town of Karachi during a three-day drive against polio scheduled from October 24 to 26, Sindh Human Right Minister Nadia Gabol said in a statement issued on Sunday.
“Teams of 30,000 volunteers have been formed to administer anti-polio drops in the province,” she said. “An awareness drive about the menace of polio has been launched and religious scholars would have to play an active role to inform the masses about the importance of administering the vaccine to children.”
Gabol said that elimination of polio is among the top priorities of the government and no negligence would be tolerated in this regard. “Access to basic health facilities is the right of every citizen. The government is taking effective steps to make this possible and the media and nongovernmental organisations are also playing significant role towards this direction.” The minister called upon the media, social welfare organisations and religious scholars to come forward and play their role for creating awareness among masses to eliminate polio from Pakistan.
