The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to install 10 more water filtration plants in various sectors of the federal capital where the facility is currently not available. Talking to APP, Director General Water Supply Directorate Sanaullah Aman said the water filtration plants would be installed in F-6, F-7, G-7, H-8, F-11 and other areas. He said 37 filtration plants are already operative in different sectors of the city, which were regularly monitored to check the quality of water being supplied to the residents. Aman said the plan to install water filtration plants would be executed shortly as the project delayed due to the shortage of funds earlier. “The CDA has allocated an amount of Rs 150 million for installation and improvement of filtration plants in the current budget.”
The CDA supplies drinking water from ground and surface sources after treatment at the water treatment plants while the major sources are Simply, Khanpur and tube-wells. About safe drinking water, Aman said, the regular testing of the water from the filtration plants was compared with the World Health Organization (WHO) standards. However, an amount of Rs 1.5 million is spent every month to ensure cleanliness of the filtration plants while the filters are also changed on regular basis. About the maintenance of the filtration plants, Aman said a private company `Rainbow’ was awarded contract for ensuring availability of clean and safe drinking water to the residents.
“Now, the contract will be awarded to another company as it is going to expire soon,” he said. Aman said citizens management committees were being set up in every sector which would work in coordination with the CDA workers and help redress residents’ complaints at the earliest. “However, the residents can also register complaints with the CDA Control Room no 051-9207286 which is working round the clock to check water problems including tankers demand and leakage in pipelines.” He said around 300 illegal water connections had been identified including that in the farm houses. “A grand operation will be launched with the coordination of enforcement division after Eid for taking action against those having illegal water connections,” he said.
