Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Friday inaugurated the new campus of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) in Islamabad and approved a grant of Rs 10 million for its library.
Addressing a gathering, the premier assured the audience that his government would provide generous funds to the institute.
Gilani directed the Ministry of Science and Technology, Planning and Development Division and the Higher Education Commission to prepare a comprehensive proposal based on genuine requirements of the COMSATS University for consideration.
He said the passage of the 18th Amendment made education a provincial subject.
However, the federation had to take ownership of higher technical and scientific education.
Earlier, the prime minister while addressing the students, said, “Instead of pursuing traditional education, we must focus on science and technology and professional learning. Preparing the students to respond to challenges of the 21st century is the task for our universities. This calls for establishing linkages between industry and academia through a well formulated strategy of research and development,” Gilani added.
