Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Thursday asked the government to refrain from any decision that might affect Kashmir cause or hurt the sentiments of the Kashmiri people. “The government should have taken the Parliament’s Kashmir Committee into confidence before considering granting Most Favoured Nation status to India viz-a-viz trade,” he said in a press statement. Fazl said he had written letters to the foreign office and ministry of commerce to record his concerns over the issue.
Fazlur Rehman, who is also Kashmir Committee Chairman, urged all political forces to unite in their stance on the Kashmir issue as divisions and criticism against one another will cause irreparable loss to the Kashmir cause. “There should be coordination and consultations among all the stakeholders before taking a major decision regarding the core issue of Kashmir,” he added. He said Parliament’s Kashmir Committee will meet to discuss the expected decision of the government pertaining to India. National Kashmir Conference will also be held soon after Eid-ul-Azha, he added.
