Toppled Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was killed on Thursday in a final assault by new regime forces on the last pocket of resistance in his hometown Sirte, sparking wild joy and celebratory gunfire across the embattled country. “We announce to the world that Gaddafi has died in the custody of the revolution,” National Transitional Council (NTC) spokesman Abdel Hafez Ghoga said in the eastern city of Benghazi. “It is an historic moment. It is the end of tyranny and dictatorship. Gaddafi has met his fate,” he added. He said the fugitive despot’s death had been “confirmed by our commanders on the ground in Sirte, those who captured him after he had been wounded in the battle for Sirte”.

PHOTO, VIDEO:
A photograph taken on a mobile phone appeared to show the 69-year-old Gaddafi heavily bloodied. In the blurry image, Gaddafi is seen with blood-soaked clothing and blood daubed across his face. His last words recorded on the video were “Don’t shoot”, “Don’t shoot”. A video circulating among NTC fighters in Sirte showed mobile phone footage of what appeared to be Gaddafi’s bloodied corpse. In the grainy images, a large number of NTC fighters are seen yelling in chaotic scenes around a khaki-clad body which has blood oozing from the face and neck. The body is then dragged off by the fighters and loaded in the back of a pick-up truck.

DRAINAGE PIPES:
Accounts were hazy of Gaddafi’s final hours, which also appeared to have cost the lives of senior aides. But top officials of the NTC, including Abdel Majid Mlegta, said he had died of wounds sustained in clashes. One possible description, pieced together from various sources, suggests that Gaddafi may have tried to break out of his final redoubt at dawn in a convoy of vehicles after weeks of dogged resistance. However, he was stopped by a NATO air strike and captured, possibly three or four hours later, after gun battles with NTC fighters who found him hiding in a drainage culvert. NATO said its warplanes fired on a convoy near Sirte about 8.30am, striking two military vehicles in the group, but could not confirm that Gaddafi had been a passenger. There was no shortage of NTC fighters in Sirte claiming to have seen him die, though many accounts were conflicting. Libyan television carried video of two drainage pipes, about a metre across, where it said fighters had cornered a man who long inspired both fear and admiration around the world. Another NTC commander said one of Gaddafi’s sons, Mutassim, was also killed in Sirte. As Libyans on the streets of Tripoli and Sirte fired automatic weapons into the air and danced for joy, world leaders welcomed Gaddafi’s demise as the end of despotism, tyranny, dictatorship and ultimately war in the north African country.

LIBERATION:
The fall of Sirte marks a milestone. Libya’s new rulers had said that only once the city had fallen would they declare the country’s liberation and begin the transition to an elected government. The chairman of the NTC will declare the country liberated from Gaddafi’s rule later on Thursday or, at the latest, on Friday, NTC Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril told a news conference. “Mr Mustafa Abdel Jalil will come out today or by maximum tomorrow, to declare the liberation of the country and to give out specific details regarding the killing of Gaddafi,” Jibril said.

      • How do you know?

What's your information about rebel leaders? Any prediction about their life-style in the coming years? Or, clean past for that matter?

Do you agree that one but the last of "NATIONALIST" Arab-Muslim leader died?

        • THere is absolutely no saying what the rebels will turn out to be like, and considering the way they slaughtered him, the signs aren't good.

But fact is this is a man who stole from his people and there are multiple sources for anyone who has ever informed themselves about the excesses of him and his regime, I don't need to start spewing references here.

          • Have you seen King of Jordan's house in French Rivera (Cap-D'Antibes) or Royal Saudi yacht anchored around there? Where did those money come from? What's your prescription for them?

    • Fully agree with Sami … This is true CIA/Zionist style. First they accuse you, then accuse you to the extent that a hero turns into a villain through continued media propagation and later they attack and kill anyone who is unfit in their design or resists against their plans. Innalillahe Wa Inna Alieye Rajeoon. He had given his nation a lot and deserved a better end.

      • A secular and nationalist Arab leader who first (and truly) broke the grip of foreign monopoly over his country's natural resources (oil).

Easy enough to understand why the West would like to neutralize him. The West can't afford for him to be remembered for his own virtue.

  1. Surely, we belong to Allah & return to Him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
He was a great friend of Pakistan & muslims of the world. Without going into the merits or demerits of his style of governance, the Western world under leadership of USA had no right to cause enormous destruction in Libya killing thousands of people. Each nation has a right to take its decisions. The colonial record of white nations is shameful, to say the least.
There is no doubt Obama and all other world leaders who participated in this campaign are war criminals. Alas, circumstances are such that they cannot be tried and justice cannot prevail. Unfortunately, we live in a unipolar world. I badly miss Soviet Union from world scene.

  2. By the grace of ALLAH al-Mighty, Bro. Leader Col. Muammar al-Qazzafi is Alive and well and in good health condition. Alhamdollilah . . . . !

    Sadness for NATO Dogs n Rats . . . . !

  3. Looks like most of the commentators do not read the newspapers. Ya, he did something good in his early years, but when the people of his country asked him to leave, he should have left, instead he killed 30,000 of his muslim country men. La'anat on his soul. He killed 30,000 muslims just for the sake of saving his office. He should have spoken with his people and re-formed his government, for the sake of his people.

    • Looks like you are reading too much of newspaper and using them as your single source for your enlightenment. You are an easy lamb to be led on the path…

      • I can put a list of anti-muslim things he and his sons did and practiced. If you wish to know or any of the commentators, just ask, and I will put that list here for all of you.

Check this video to know more of why the western world was after Gaddafi. There are numerous leaders who may have lived a life of luxury – with or without being a dictator.

I am an Indian, and fail to understand why people of the Arab world, the Turkic populations (all the troubles of Caucasus) and the Indians & Pakistanis not see the western interests in sustaining instability in our lands.

High time at least India & Pakistan understood this nonsense and stopped sacrificing their soldiers to feed the American interests.

Stop toeing the politicians – aam aadmi ko dekho. Chaahe Lahore mein ho ya Ludhiana mein, usi ki zindagi barbaad hoti hai.

    • You are right. Anybody who talks about breaking of Dollar monopoly is criminally eliminated. India & Pakistan, two nuclear powers, must sit on the table with the serious purpose of resolving all issues and lay foundations of a strong relationship. Together, we can do a lot.
Presently, there is no single country in the world which can end American goondaism. This is the reason I always miss Soviet Union since its fall. Now, a group of nations must emerge which can counter American imperialism.
The inequity between North & South also needs to be addressed. The world is beset with two kinds of exploitation. One between different classes of the same society and the other between rich & poor nations. This is one of the causes for which Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto stood up and America managed to send him to the gallows.

      • Dividing India to curve out Pakistan was British design. It only served the West. Otherwise world history post WW II would have been written differently…

  5. Surprising, Saddam and Qaddafi videos can be seen, but no Osama video, Why? simply because he was never there.Isreal is more safe no Qaddafi and no Saddam and now its Iran's turn, divide and rule, how sad a muslim killing and dishonoring a muslim after his death, spare his body at least act like a human as far as his body is concerned what is the difference between you and Qaddafi, you are also doing what he did to others.
