Late Hameed Akhtar’s literary, social services eulogised

Rich tributes were paid to the late progressive thinker, Hameed Akhtar, for his services for Urdu literature and journalism. In a condolence reference held here at the National Language Authority, local poets, writers, and members of literary community shared their views and hailed Hameed Akhtar’s contribution towards promoting progressive thinking among the masses.
The speakers paid their glowing tributes to Hameed Akhtar’s life-long struggle for the cause of peasants, workers and deprived sections of society. “Hameed Akthar is a big name amongst South Asian progressive schools of thought and he was a movement in himself,” said Dr Ravish Nadeem.
Speaking on the occasion, human right activist, Tahira Abdulla, said that throughout his life, Akhtar wrote and struggled for emancipation of the downtrodden sections of society. “If we are really Akhtar’s admirers, then we have to follow his legacy,” she observed. Writers Yousuf Hassan, Ishfaq Saleem Mirza, Arshad Rizvi, Manzar Naqvi, Comrade Munir and the National Language Authority’s Chairman Dr Anwar Ahmed paid rich tributes of the late progressive thinker.
