Drive against encroachments, substandard edibles launched

The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has launched special drives against encroachments and sub-standard and low quality food products. Officials on the instructions of the station commander and the chief executive officer of RCB have started conducting raids in markets to check quality of edibles, besides launching an anti-encroachment campaign. Additional Chief Executive Officer (ACEO) Muhammad Kamran Towfeeq told APP that during last two weeks, over 400 samples of edibles had been collected and sent to a food testing laboratory after raids in Saddar Bazaar, Peshawar Road, Range Road, Misrial Road, Tench Bhatta, Bakra Mandi, 22 Number Chowngi and several other markets.
He said as many as 100 butchers had also been challaned for selling unhygienic , adding that cases against the accused were under trial in the court. The shopkeepers had been warned to ensure the sale of good and hygienic meat and other edibles; otherwise, a stern action will be taken against them, he said. He said in view of the difficulties being faced by the residents, raids had been conducted to remove encroachments at Range Road and some other areas while the campaign was being expanded to all the Cantonment areas. Three trucks loaded with confiscated goods had been deposited in the store and shopkeepers and vendors were warned to not indulge in any type of encroachment otherwise stern action would be taken and confiscated goods would not be returned, he added.
CDA asked to complete development work in I-16: The Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurance on Monday urged the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to complete development work of I-16 sector as soon as possible and facilitate the allottees.
The committee also said that the civic body should adopt legal procedure against thee private housing societies, which were using the name of CDA in their advertisement to attract the customers. The meeting was presided over Chairperson Senator Kalsoom Parveen while Almas Parveen, Suriya Amiruddin and Sabina Rauf along with top officials of CDA were also present on the occasion. The agenda before the committee was assurance given by Senator Syed Leader of the House Nayyer Hussain Bukhari regarding the completion of Shah Allah Dittta water reservoir project, on a point of order raised by Senator Rehana Yahya Baloch on June 20.
