Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali has stressed the need to develop a strong research culture in the country. “Due to excellent initiatives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), our scholars are paying more attention to research activities,” Mir Changzeb Khan said while addressing the ‘Outstanding Research Awards’ ceremony held at HEC secretariat on Monday. On the occasion, 33 outstanding researchers were given Lifetime Academic Achievement, Best Innovator, Best Book Publication, Best Research Paper and Best Young Research Scholar awards.
The winners belong to six disciplines—biological sciences, engineering and technology, basic and applied sciences, management sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Congratulating the award winners, the minister underlined the significance of needs-based research which, he said, was vital for socio-economic development of the country. He emphasised that education was the biggest solution to the problems of the country. HEC Chairperson Dr Javaid Leghari said that the purpose of these awards was to recognise and reward achievements of Pakistani researchers /scholars in research, innovation and publication in all areas of knowledge. He said the university research was directly linked to the economic growth of any country and that had been proved by the developments taking place across the globe.
HEC Executive Director Dr Sohail Naqvi said these awards were conferred on those who had promoted research and innovation in the country. “Our researchers have proved that they are second to none in world-class research,” he claimed. Each year, applications are invited from all over Pakistan for these awards. A transparent, competitive and acceptable mechanism has been adopted for selection of the scholars. Re: Launching of “BOOKS & CULTURE” TO PROMOTE BOOK READING AND CULTURAL RENAISSANCE
As author and editor of “BOOKS & CULTURE”, I am pleased to inform you that the above magazine is being launched to cultivate the culture of book reading and promote cultural harmony across the world. As the primary journal in English we would try to give it an international nuance so that Pakistani arts and literature could become a global commodity to be understood and consumed by the world community. At the same time avenues will be furnished with the portraits of intellectual excellence and cultural embellishment. Cultures have not to b e restricted to any specific confines , but must embrace the vast firmaments of arts and literature The idea behind the journal is to illustrate the qualities of heart and mind to ensure the sustenance of soul and soil.
In this journal we will be speaking of old books and new creative works in order to penetrate into the bosoms of thinkers and authors who spread the specks of creativity and cheerfulness. In our encounters with commanding minds we will stimulate the streams of thought to accomplish almost unattainable levels of excellence and elegance. In order to perform good works in the public service we will concentrate on charity and philanthropy and urge our readers to participate more actively in this sector. In order to build the inner citadel we will meditate on the virtues of serenity and spirituality.
