Owing to a cold war between the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and Capital Administration and Development Division (CAAD) over the appointment of Federal Government Post Graduate College of Commerce principal, thousands of students are suffering, it has been learnt.
The only commerce college in the federal capital is being run without a chief for the last two months, which reflects the indifferent attitude of the government, costing heavily to the students. A source said out of a total of around 3,500, over 2,000 students were pursing their studies on self-finance basis, adding that because of the hefty funds collected by the college from students, some influential bureaucrats were eyeing the slot and busy in lobbying to press their case.
The source said the FDE had repeatedly taken up the issue with CAAD Joint Secretary Rafiq Tahir but he was not paying attention to the important issue. It is relevant to mention that the slot is lying vacant since August 4 with Professor Zafar Ullah Khan Buttar as the last principal. The source said in the absence of principal, all the administrative work had come to a halt, badly affecting the performance of teachers and studies of students.
When contacted, FDE Director General Atif Kayani rejected the impression that there was any tug of war between the FDE and the CAAD, saying they had recommended the name of Professor Raja Hafeez to CAAD for appointing him as the new principal of college. To a query, he admitted that the appointment was little late, but it would be made soon.
