Khurshid Kasuri’s mother laid to rest

Wife of Mehmood Ali Kasuri, and mother of former foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Roshan Ara Begum was laid to rest at her native graveyard in Kasur on Sunday, at a funeral attended by many prominent personalities, including Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhary, former LHC chief justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif, former president Rafiq Tarar, federal minister Manzoor Wattoo, PPP secretary general Jehangir Badar, Humayun Akhtar Khan, S M Zafar, Arif Nizami, Mujeeb-ur Rehman Shami, Humanyun Akhtar Khan, Hamid Nasir Chattha, and Mian Azhar.
Her husband, Mahmud Ali Kasuri was briefly a member of Z A Bhutto’s cabinet, was one of the top lawyers and politicians of the country, and was widely regarded as the father of Pakistan’s human rights movement. He also contributed towards the framing of the original 1973 Constitution. Moreover, all of Roshan Ara’s offspring distinguished themselves at the national and international levels, in various fields. Her son, Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri remained the foreign minister from 2002 to 2007. He was the PML-Likeminded steering committee chairman, and was elected as the first secretary general of the Peoples Democratic Alliance. He was also appointed Parliamentary Affairs federal minister in the interim government of prime minister Mir Balakh Sher Mazari. Her younger sons, Umer Mahmood kasuri, Daniyal Mahmood kasuri and Bakhtiar Mahmood Kasuri enjoy good repute in the business and legal communities.
