The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC)’s 220-megawatt (MW) Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) at Korangi has received the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO)-9001:2008 certification.
The certificate has been issued ‘in recognition of quality management at the power plant by KESC to meet the standard requirements’. According to the power utility, the ISO certification – the first-ever in the KESC’s history – demonstrates the commitment and dedication of the management and the entire CCPP team towards international standards.
“The KESC management has taken all steps to transform the company into a viable commercial institution based on best international practices. A few hallmarks of the ongoing turnaround at the now-ISO certified power plant include best management; addition of 450 MWs into the electricity network; fast-track progress at 560-MW power station at Bin Qasim; shifting of entire billing system to an information technology-based infrastructure; redesigning of management and human resource policies on dynamic lines; enhancement of KESC call centre 118; installation of more grid stations, power supply feeders and transformers; and stability of system against emergencies like rains,” a statement issued by the power company stated.
The operating results of the KESC have also improved significantly and signs of an operational and financial turnaround are clearly visible, the statement concluded.
