Send relief goods where they are needed, orders chief minister

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah directed the authorities concerned on Friday to reduce the supply of relief goods to those flood-hit areas where the situation is becoming normal, but keep it unchanged to the areas still affected.
“Coordinated efforts for prompt and proper distribution of relief goods should be evolved so that there is no duplication,” he said while presiding over a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House to review relief and rehabilitation measures for the calamity-stricken people of the province. “A detailed accountability process for distribution of relief goods and funds should be chalked out and confirmation from recipients be conducted.”
According to an official handout, the chief minister directed the officials concerned and relevant agencies to look after the affected people and make all-out efforts to assist the affected people. The participants of the meeting were briefed that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is supplying relief goods to the affected people in the districts of Shaheed Benazirabad, Badin, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar and Mirpurkhas.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is supplying relief goods in Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar and other districts. The NDMA chairman said on the occasion that two million bags containing food items have been distributed so far. Overall, 88 talukas, 679 union councils and 37,810 villages were affected by the rains. Around 8,943,486 people were affected and crops on 2,166,623 acres were damaged.
At least 1,507,947 houses were damaged, 449 people died and 756 were injured. An estimated 113,228 cattle perished and at present, there are 1,713 relief camps where, 512,862 people are residing, including 125,100 men, 112,283 women and 160,728 children. The PDMA has provided 103,785 tents, 36,535 bags of rice (50kg each), 627,235 family packs, 94 dewatering pumps, 57,415 plastic sheets, 29,800 bags of flour (10kg each), 720 bags of dal channa, 8,300 ghee packs (2kg each) and other items including mineral water, milk, candles, blankets and mosquito nets to the disaster-hit people.
The ERC, Pakistan Red Crescent, IOM, SRPS, Sindh Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, Baitul Maal, Pak Army and Metro Cash & Carry also supplied relief items to the affected people.
