Expressing its concern at the non-payment of compensation to the heirs of the missing persons, the Supreme Court on Thursday summoned the interior secretary for October 20 hearing on the issue.
A three-member Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Jawaad S Khawaja and Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali was hearing the cases of missing persons. The court also referred the cases of Attiqur Rehman, Dr Abdi Sharif, Mansoor Ahmed and Abdul Karim Mehmood to Judicial Inquiry Commission on missing persons.
During the hearing, Additional Attorney General KK Agha presented the statements of spy agencies before the court, adding that they had denied the custody of Attiqur Rehman and others. However, a sister of Attiqur Rehman informed the court that former interior minister Faisal Saleh Hayat had stated that Attiqur Rehman was under the custody of agencies.
Justice Khawaja remarked that Attiqur Rehman was missing for seven years, however his whereabouts were still unknown, which he said was the failure of law enforcement agencies.
